四、諷頌者，謂非長行直說，但以巧妙言調結於句韻，或作二句乃至六句等諷頌說法，是不重頌伽陀頌也，不同室路迦誦，不問有義、無義但滿三十二字以為一誦，是經論數法。

Fourth, 'verses' (gāthā): not direct prose exposition, but composed in rhythmic lines through skillful phrasing, expounding the Dharma in chanting verses of two lines up to six lines; these are verses that do not repeat preceding prose, unlike a śloka chant which, whether meaningful or meaningless, simply counts thirty-two syllables as one recitation, which is a method of reckoning in scriptures and treatises.
