There are six things that ought not to be contemplated: first, because the self has no substantial nature, it should not be contemplated; second, because sentient beings are conventionally designated and also lack real existence, they should not be contemplated; third, regarding the world, since the receptacle world is arranged as such and the four great elements have their natures naturally thus (dharmatā), it should also not be contemplated; fourth, the karma and fruit of sentient beings can only be known by a Buddha, and among the Buddha's ten powers the power of karma is the most profound and is not the domain of śrāvakas, so it should not be contemplated; fifth, the domain of supernormal powers arisen from dhyāna is not a domain of discursive thought, so it should not be contemplated; sixth, the domain of all Buddhas is not the domain of śrāvakas, so it should not be contemplated.
