Regarding particular characteristics (svalakṣaṇa) and common characteristics (sāmānyalakṣaṇa), briefly distinguished there are three [aspects]: first, as in the form aggregate, the eleven diverse types are called particular characteristics, while their collectively sharing the three meanings such as deterioration and destruction is the common characteristic; second, the five aggregates being individually distinct are called particular characteristics, while their collectively sharing the meaning of being a collection and summation is called the common characteristic; third, the five aggregates of form and the rest having diverse individual natures and characteristics are called particular characteristics, while their sharing the identical principle of being impermanent, suffering, empty, and non-self is called the common characteristic.
