極七返有者,得初果已不斷修惑,除初得道身更受人天,各七返往來生死名極七有,自有天七人六天六人五等不滿七有而得涅槃,今據極多名極七返有,七有初身即得名為住苦邊際。
As for 'having at most seven returns to existence': having attained the first fruit, without yet severing the afflictions of cultivation, excluding the body in which the path was first attained, one further undergoes rebirth among humans and devas, each seven times wandering back and forth through saṃsāra, which is called 'having at most seven existences'. There are cases where one does not complete seven existences, such as seven in heaven and six among humans, or six in heaven and five among humans, and attains nirvāṇa; here, based on the maximum number, it is called 'having at most seven returns to existence'. In the first body of the seven existences, one can already be called 'dwelling at the culmination of suffering'.
