上流有二：一者、樂慧，雜修靜慮有熏業故至色究竟為極；二者、樂定，無雜修定業往生無色至非想為極。然此二人各望色究竟或望非想，有全超半超及一切處沒。

Regarding the upward-flowing (ūrdhvasrotas), there are two types: first, those who delight in wisdom, who, due to having perfumed karma through the compound cultivation of dhyānas, reach Akaniṣṭha as the culmination; second, those who delight in concentration, who, through karmic actions of uncompounded concentration, take rebirth in the formless realm, reaching the [sphere of] neither-perception-nor-non-perception as the culmination. However, for both of these persons, whether viewing Akaniṣṭha or viewing neither-perception-nor-non-perception, there are those who transcend entirely, those who transcend halfway, and those who die and are reborn everywhere.
