Fascicle two of the Tattvasiddhi, Chapter on Noble Beings, states: There are eighteen in training and nine beyond training. The eighteen in training are: 1. the follower by faith, in the stages of hearing and thinking; 2. the follower by the Dharma, in the four wholesome roots; 3. the practitioner of signlessness, namely the previous two persons entering the path of seeing—these three persons are called candidates for stream-entry; 4. fruit of stream-entry; 5. candidate for once-returner; 6. fruit of once-returner; 7. candidate for non-returner; 8. fruit of non-returner. The fruit of non-returner has eleven persons: 1. intermediate parinirvāṇa; 2. parinirvāṇa upon rebirth; 3. parinirvāṇa with exertion; 4. parinirvāṇa without exertion; 5. delighting in concentration; 6. delighting in wisdom; 7. changing world-periods; 8. parinirvāṇa in the present life; 9. liberated by faith; 10. attained by vision; 11. bodily witness. Together with the previous seven, these form eighteen, called persons in training. The nine beyond training are: 1. mark of falling back; 2. mark of guarding; 3. mark of dying; 4. mark of abiding; 5. mark of capability of advancing; 6. mark of indestructibility; 7. liberated by wisdom; 8. doubly liberated; 9. mark of non-falling back.
