Opening the four phrases: 1. Either delighting in practicing the five calmings to purify afflictions, or delighting in cultivating skill in the aggregates, realms, sense-bases, dependent origination, and possibilities and impossibilities, or delighting in liberation from all taints of the three realms—having such an intention, one settles one's mind upon a suitable cognitive object; 2. settling one's mind upon a similar cognitive object; 3. settling one's mind without error upon the cognitive object; 4. being able not to abandon meditative absorption therein. Here, 'either delighting in pure practice... up to... causing the mind to be liberated from all taints' answers the first question. The four phrases starting from 'settling one's mind upon a suitable cognitive object' answer the second question. Cultivation and fulfillment are based on these four phrases, and therefore the final conclusion states 'it is called well-settled,' which answers the settling, reiterating the answer to the second question.
