Under the eighth, explaining yoga: regarding the two aspects of faith, Jing says, '1. The aspect of faithful compliance means that when hearing the truths, treasures, and so forth spoken, the mind generates faithful compliance. 2. The aspect of purity: generally, an unfaithful mind is called impure; here, speaking of faithful compliance is called the aspect of purity. Now following the Abhidharmasamuccaya, endurance is the faith of practice, which is the aspect of faithful compliance; the faith of pure practice is called the aspect of pure practice.' Regarding the two bases: '1. The basis of observing the principle of phenomena: for instance, hearing the principle of the four truths spoken, observing therein that the cause and fruit of defilement and purity truly exist without falsehood, and generating faith based upon it; hence it is called a basis. 2. The basis of resolved faith in a person's supernormal powers: seeing supernormal transformations manifested, one therefore generates faith; this is also called a basis.'
