四、順觀察作意，謂觀察作意是精進道，返觀煩惱斷與未斷，亦可了相勝解及攝樂一分名隨順，遠離加行及攝樂一分名對治，攝樂一分名順清淨，觀察作意名順觀察，故四作意攝前六作意也。

"Mental engagement conforming to examination" means that the mental engagement of examination is the path of energetic practice, introspectively examining whether afflictions have been abandoned or not abandoned. Alternatively, comprehending marks, resolved determination, and a portion of the absorption of joy are called "conforming"; aloofness, preparation, and a portion of the absorption of joy are called "antidotal"; a portion of the absorption of joy is called "conforming to purification"; and the mental engagement of examination is called "conforming to examination"; thus, the four mental engagements subsume the previous six mental engagements.
