Second, explaining what is to be rejoiced in has three parts: 1. Recollecting the Three Jewels, meaning 'I am a companion in the Dharma with those endowed with morality, endowed with virtue,' and so forth, the intention being merely to take the Jewel of the Saṅgha that is recollected. 2. In recollecting the precepts and pure morality, it further says: 'I am able to share the same morality, the same training, and the same views with those fellow practitioners of the holy life,' and so forth, the intention being to recollect that one's own three wisdoms are pure and equal to superior persons, causing the mind to rejoice. 3. In causing the mind to rejoice with deep conviction and without faintheartedness in the distinctions of one's own realization, there are two parts: first, recollecting 'I now have the capacity to attain what has not yet been attained' and so forth, thereby causing the mind to be joyful and delighted; second, furthermore, through prior and subsequent vigorous effort, having mastered what has been realized, one further gives rise to conviction and delight in what will be realized later; this is called an alternative explanation. Master Jing explains: 'Alternative explanation' means that in newly realizing something, the mind king rejoices over the former realization, hence it is called an alternative explanation. It can also mean differing from the first cycle: the first cycle merely says that through this attention, the mind is made to rejoice in dharmas to be rejoiced in, which is called attention of enrichment to explain rejoicing, whereas now it relies on taking three objects as supports: 1. recollecting the Three Jewels; 2. recollecting the purity of the precepts and morality; 3. giving rise to conviction and delight in one's own realization; thus it differs from the preceding.
