8.51

又正了知如是尋伺，是心法性等者，但解尋伺是心所性與心並生，不解尋伺自得相應。依內而生，外處所攝者，依內根而生體是法塵，外處所攝。又正了知如是尋伺三世所攝從因緣生乃至隨逐諸欲等者，觀初靜慮尋伺散動不靜隨逐諸欲及離生喜樂少分攝。

Furthermore, regarding "And correctly understanding that such investigation and reflection are of the nature of mental factors...", it only explains that investigation and reflection are of the nature of mental factors and arise concurrently with the mind; it does not explain that investigation and reflection themselves attain association [with each other]. Regarding "arisen relying on the internal, subsumed under external sense fields," it arises relying on the internal sense faculties, its substance is dharma-objects, subsumed under the external sense fields. Furthermore, regarding "And correctly understanding that such investigation and reflection are subsumed under the three times, arise from causes and conditions... up to... following after various desires and so forth," it contemplates that the investigation and reflection of the first dhyāna are scattered, restless, not peaceful, following after various desires, and subsumed under a minor part of joy and bliss born of detachment.
