Question: If one relies on the Mahāyānasaṃgraha according to the Tripiṭaka Master, there are two kinds: namely, the four kinds of contemplations, as in the passage cited above; or they make six kinds of contemplations. Thus that treatise says: 'Because both names and referents, their intrinsic natures and distinctions, and the referents of the conventionally posited intrinsic natures and distinctions—such six kinds of referents—are entirely non-existent.' The explanation is: 1. names; 2. referents; 3. intrinsic nature of names; 4. intrinsic nature of referents; 5. distinctions of names; 6. distinctions of referents. The phrase 'referents of the conventionally posited intrinsic natures and distinctions' is a re-explanation of the words 'conventionally posited intrinsic natures and distinctions.'
