From 'in the present life... up to obtaining all masteries' and so forth down, the second part explains the attainment of masteries by virtue of accurate cognition. The text has three divisions: first, a general presentation; next, specific analyses; and finally, concluding with their supreme nature. Within the specific analyses there are four: first, obtaining mastery over the supernormal powers of prophecy and transformation; second, obtaining mastery over the ability to mutate. Jing says: transformation is the fruition mark of supernormal powers, hence it is also called mastery of supernormal power, which is the same as in the Hīnayāna; but the Hīnayāna's fourteen minds of transformation are strictly indeterminate and pertain to bondage in the desire and form realms, whereas in the Mahāyāna they are wholesome and strictly in the form realm, yet because their actions resemble the desire realm they are also called the desire realm. The ability to mutate is the essence of supernormal power. Ce indicates that the text below will explain these two masteries; third, obtaining mastery of wisdom with respect to all objects; fourth, obtaining mastery over abiding in or casting off lifespan.
