The Tripiṭaka Master says: At the outset, one takes the performance of the four aspects under the path as preliminary means; subsequently giving rise to the taintless, one does not need to perform these aspects to be able to know that mind. When knowing others' tainted minds, one also first performs the eight aspects of suffering and origination before being able to know them. Furthermore, a taintless mind knows a tainted mind; for instance, the Buddha's supernormal knowledge of others' minds is essentially taintless, yet its supernormal cognition knows all tainted and taintless minds.
