Question: If two bodhisattvas of the same stage and equal practice both manifest supernormal powers, one wishing to transform earth into water and the other wishing to transform earth into fire, are both accomplished respectively or not? Answer: According to the explanation in the Viniścayasaṃgrahaṇī below, if the powers of the two bodhisattvas are equal, neither of their transformations can be accomplished. If among them one bodhisattva single-mindedly conceptualizes fire, while the other does not single-mindedly conceptualize water but separately thinks, "I shall cause earth to be transformed into water to rescue sentient beings," and so forth, at that time the transformation into fire by the one person is accomplished, while the matter of water is not accomplished. From this it should be known that whatever is done succeeds only when the mind is directed to one point. That is what the sūtra states: "Bring the mind to one point, and there is nothing that cannot be accomplished."
