Second, in explaining manifested speech, it first opens seven clauses; second, explains them in order. Dharma Master Yuan says: Manifested speech must have two kinds: first, internal, which is the manifested sound of sentient beings; second, external, the manifested sound of grass, trees, and so forth. Internal also has four: first, manifested sound resembling oneself; second, not resembling; third, manifested sound of another person; fourth, not resembling another person. According to characteristics there are seven, which are identical to the seven clauses in this treatise. As for "unsupported," Ce says: It is spoken not relying on a mind of fame and gain.
