9.430

景云：初下品人，已修解脫分等未免惡趣，於現身中未能入聖得果盡漏，復逕多時修習入聖，在無佛世得阿羅漢，第二人住方便道已得惡趣非擇滅，即於現身入聖得果未能盡漏，入聖已作七生人等復受生死，於最後身在無佛世得阿羅漢，此前二人是其部行與聲聞同，如此文中，推同聲聞中。

Jing says: The initial lower-grade person has cultivated the aids to liberation, etc., but has not escaped the bad destinies; in their present life they cannot enter nobility, attain the fruit, and exhaust the taints; passing through much time in cultivation, they enter nobility and attain arhatship in an age without a Buddha. The second person abides in the path of expedients and has already attained non-deliberate cessation regarding the bad destinies; in the present life they enter nobility and obtain the fruit, but cannot exhaust the taints; having entered nobility, they become a person of seven rebirths, etc., and undergo saṃsāra again, attaining arhatship in their final body in an age without a Buddha. These former two persons are flock-dwellers (vargacārin) and are identical to śrāvakas; as in this text, they are inferred to be identical to śrāvakas.
