Paramārtha's Commentary states: 'From the time humans exist in Jambudvīpa during the formation kalpa up until before their lifespan decreases, from the beginning of the formation kalpa until this time, nineteen separate kalpas are completed. From the decrease of a single fraction of lifespan up until before reaching eighty thousand years, this is the twentieth kalpa of the formation kalpa. If it decreases to eighty thousand down to ten years, that is the beginning of the dwelling kalpa; from then on, when it increases back to eighty thousand years, that is the end of the first kalpa among the dwelling kalpas.'
