According to the Lokasthiti-śāstra: 'At the end of the kalpa of epidemics, those who survive disperse to various places. At that time there are people who gather together the men and women in Jambudvīpa, leaving only ten thousand survivors to serve as the seeds for future human beings. At a maximum [lifespan] of eight thousand years, women at that time marry only when reaching five hundred years. Their lifespan reaches eighty thousand years and dwells for asaṃkhyeya years, until sentient beings have not yet committed the ten unwholesome deeds. From the time they give rise to the paths of the ten unwholesome karmas, lifespan decreases by ten years at a time because of this: after passing one hundred years, it decreases by ten years; after the next hundred years, it decreases by another ten years, progressively decreasing in this order until ten years remain.' For a detailed explanation of the increases and decreases, one should consult that text.
