In the second passage, the latter three faculties are states of nine faculties—namely, mind, the five of faith and so forth, and the three feelings. In the ninth fascicle of the Abhidharma[samuccaya], ten faculties constitute the faculty of learning what is not yet known, where it adds the grief faculty. The present treatise takes the path of seeing of fifteen moments of mind as the faculty of learning what is not yet known. In this there is no grief, and so there are nine. That work takes the planting of roots of virtue conducive to liberation onward as being called the first faculty, and so there are ten with the addition of grief.
