Where it says 'by three reasons it is eternally unreasonable, and so forth': 1. if nominal designations had the nature of an referent, then just as a name has many referents, its entity should also be manifold; 2. if apart from various nominal designations such as long and short, the awareness of those referents such as long and short does not arise, the grasped referent is definitely not substantially existent—these two reasons dispel referents through names; 3. if names were apprehended according to referents, then when seeing form and so forth, the awareness of the name should arise; why? Since the expressive name operates based on the referent and name and referent correspond, when knowing the referent one should know the name—this single reason dispels names through referents. The Mahāyānasaṃgraha can be cited to inquire as previously stated.
