The remaining names can be understood. In this text, only the general names are explained. Regarding "producing resolute conviction with respect to what has already been liberated" in the first seven liberations: the phenomena contemplated in the seven require having abandoned the defilements and contaminations of that respective stage before one begins to cultivate them, hence they are called "already liberated." Now, contemplating those objects in order to eliminate meditative hindrances, one gives rise to the merits of supernatural powers and produces resolute conviction, hence they are called "liberations." The eighth liberation "turns away from ideation and feeling": although the prior, remote path of uninterrupted contemplation eradicated the hindrances of ideation and feeling, it only now attains the name of liberation; when precisely giving rise to the liberation, it merely temporarily turns away from ideation and feeling to establish the name of liberation, not that it only then begins to be liberated, since meditative hindrances have already been abandoned beforehand.
