Instructional discourse brings to completion those who have studied long. Ji says: Discourse that accords with rectitude is a good condition for the training in morality; instructional discourse is a good condition for the training in concentration and wisdom. The final two discourses should be cultivated because they accord with correct principle; the middle two discourses should be avoided because one should not engage in debate out of indulgence in bad deeds or uttering bad words. Uttering words to eradicate them is also like this, and is likewise subsumed under cultivation. The first two kinds of discourse should be distinguished, because their nature extends to both good and bad, and thus they should be cultivated or abandoned.
