In the fourth explanation of the previous three verses, Jing states: The Buddha, the World-Honoured One, in other sūtras told the gods, 'Monks cannot make manifest the great meaning of the Tathāgata's holy teaching, whereas I alone can.' At that time, the gods gave rise to contempt toward the monks and arrogance regarding themselves. Because the Buddha spoke the preceding three verses for them, the gods comprehended and abandoned both their contemptuous minds and their arrogant minds.
