In Candragupta's doctrine there are also two explanations. One explanation: when the original natural gotra has not yet been accomplished through cultivation, at the time of the active fruit with taints prior to the stages, it is called subtle; when the fruit with taints is accomplished, it is called coarse, because it is concurrent with the active mind; that is, on account of the sovereign condition of the original taintless [seeds], it is the fruit of generating the bodhicitta. The second explanation: prior to the stages, when the two kinds, gotra and cultivation, have not yet been accomplished through cultivation, the fruit of the taintless mind upon ascending the stages and above is spoken of as subtle; only when the taintless mind is accomplished is it called coarse, because it is concurrent with the fruit of the taintless mind.
