In the specific explanation of the formation of the world, the second section explains the dharmas that can be found once it is formed. The text is divided into two: first, listing the twenty-four gates; second, explaining them individually, explaining nineteen gates and not explaining five gates. First, the ten time divisions are not explained: namely, 1. season (kāla); 2. year (varṣa); 3. month (māsa); 4. half-month (ardhamāsa); 5. day (ahorātra/dina); 6. night (rātri); 7. instant (kṣaṇa); 8. tatkṣaṇa; 9. lava; 10. muhūrta. The Abhidharmakośa-śāstra states: one hundred and twenty kṣaṇas make one tatkṣaṇa; sixty tatkṣaṇas make a lava; thirty lavas make one muhūrta; thirty muhūrtas make one day-and-night; thirty days-and-nights make a month; twelve months make a year; a year makes three seasons, namely cold, hot, and rainy, each having four months. There are only eight positions: combining day and night into one, and furthermore having no half-month. Here it differs from that. "Season" refers to kalpas outside the year, as already stated earlier. A half-month is fifteen days; fifteen muhūrtas make a night, and fifteen muhūrtas make a day. Or "season" refers to that very season.
