The treatise says: "As the sūtra states: 'With indestructible resolution as the foremost, all ten kinds of wisdom that can mature, and dharmas that mature wisdom, are completely matured'": this means that the ten kinds of dharmas and wisdoms are capable of bringing wisdom to completion; wisdom is that which is brought to completion, and these ten are the dharmas that mature wisdom—this is the intended meaning here. "With indestructible resolution as the foremost" is the first of the ten dharmas, which is why it is called "the foremost." The older Bodhisattvabhūmi-sūtra says that matured indestructible purity is the foremost; in the Daśabhūmika-sūtra it corresponds to the second, honoring the Three Jewels alike, called indestructible purity. That it is called "the foremost" here is because, like the older explanation, it corresponds to the first in the Sanskrit text, and is thus called "the foremost." Now, our explanation is not so. The meaning is: the treatise says "nurturing the family of the Tathāgata and attaining its essential dharmas"; this means that the first bhūmi is called "being born into the family of the Tathāgata," and once having been born there, the fifth bhūmi and so forth are now called "nurturing the family of the Tathāgata." "Attaining its essential dharmas": the older Bodhisattvabhūmi-sūtra says "attaining mastery"; the sūtra says that after attaining the nurturing of the family, one attains power and mastery. Furthermore, "attaining essential dharmas" means attaining the essence of the Tathāgata, meaning that tathatā is the essential dharma. In addition, the ten masteries are spoken of as essential dharmas; this must be examined.
