The fifth bhūmi. The treatise explains the ten kinds of equal and pure resolutions, saying: "Namely, the unequal awakening is equal to all awakenings, surpassing the rest of the realms of sentient beings and all dharmas, according with their equality." The Dharma Master says: Here, "equal awakening" is as the Daśabhūmika-sūtra says, namely awakening to the equality of all merits and all dharmas of the Buddhas of the three periods of time; the Buddha is unequal, and awakening to this unequal one is called "unequal awakening." Because the Buddhas of the three periods of time constitute three equalities, this is the unequal equality. Saying here "equal to all awakenings" subsumes the following six kinds; since the six kinds are one, it says "equal to all awakenings." The Daśabhūmika-śāstra says: that is, morality, concentration, and wisdom. Morality is the equality of morality, and concentration is the equality of concentration—that is, the purification of morality and of mind. Crossing beyond doubt and purification of view: among the seven purifications, this combines the two, crossing beyond doubt and view, into one, the equality of crossing beyond doubt and view. Purification of path and non-path: that is, the clinging to rules and vows by non-Buddhists, which is the equality of path and non-path. Purification of knowledge and vision is the equality of practice. Purification of knowledge and vision in practice and abandonment is the equality of knowledge and vision in practice and abandonment. These above are the six subsumed under "equal to all awakenings." As the text of the older Bodhisattvabhūmi-sūtra and its commentaries explain them differently, they need not be cited in detail. "The rest of the realms of sentient beings" here refers to the equality of compassion for sentient beings. The preceding nine are for one's own benefit, and the last one is for the benefit of others. "Here, and all dharmas, according with their equality" corresponds to that sūtra's explanation of the name "equality": it means that with respect to the preceding dharmas, being equal according with those dharmas is called equality, as detailed in that sūtra.
