論云「何故若無阿賴耶識，有種子性乃至不應道理」者，此下不能別判諸文。以小乘中計六轉識能持於種，今以諸心別異，云何持種？應立量云：六種轉識不能持種（宗），因云展轉異故，由如鼓等所發音聲；又云六種轉識應不持種，三性間故，如身語業。餘文可知。

The treatise says: "Why is it that without the ālayavijñāna, possessing the nature of seeds... would not be reasonable?" From here on, one cannot analyze the passages separately. Since the Hīnayāna posits that the six evolving consciousnesses can maintain seeds, now, since the various mental states are distinct and different, how could they maintain seeds? One should formulate a syllogism: The six evolving consciousnesses cannot maintain seeds (thesis); the reason is: Because they are mutually different; just like the sounds produced by a drum and the like. Again, one says: The six evolving consciousnesses should not maintain seeds; because they are interrupted by the three natures; like bodily and vocal karma. The rest of the text is readily understood.
