眼非處四句中，初句云「謂若眼已得不捨，然是無間斷滅之法」，謂阿羅漢最後眼，無間即斷滅，不能生識故。以處是生長門義，此不能生長故。

In the four permutations of the eye not being an āyatana, the first permutation says: 'If the eye has been obtained and not relinquished, but is a phenomenon subject to immediate cessation': this refers to the final eye of an arhat, which ceases immediately and cannot produce consciousness. Because 'āyatana' has the meaning of a gateway for arising and growth, this cannot bring about arising and growth.
