The treatise says: 'Furthermore, if by the power of afflictions such as craving, they cause the associated knowledge to take on the nature of delusion...': this means that the external view asserts: 'Delusion is itself view; by the power of association with view, it causes knowledge to take on the nature of delusion.' If so, then delusion would be caused by craving, rather than delusion being predominant and primary, causing all afflictions such as craving. Furthermore, it should be like prajñā accompanied by other [afflictions such as] anger: through associated anger and so on, it would be caused to become delusion; it would not be intrinsic delusion that could take on the nature of delusion. Moreover, it should be that all mental factors and so forth would likewise be caused to take on the nature of delusion, because of being defiled by the power of craving and so forth. As you say, view should also have the intrinsic nature of delusion; like the five omnipresent mental factors, etc., whose essence is not delusion, yet by the power of craving and so forth, they are caused to become delusion.
