16.4

論云「云何眾苦所隨故苦？謂生那落迦及一向苦餓鬼趣中乃至名眾苦所隨故苦」者，謂此中應言傍生一分受苦亦是。上來數有此文，而此中據多分受苦者語，傍生受苦少於鬼故。此生老病死苦，勘前〈本地〉第十及《緣起經》廣辨。

The treatise states, 'How is there suffering due to being attended by multiple sufferings? It refers to being born in the narakas and among the exclusively suffering hungry ghosts, up to being called suffering due to being attended by multiple sufferings': this means that here it should be stated that one part of the animal realm that undergoes suffering is also included. Previously, this passage has appeared several times, but here it speaks according to those who undergo suffering for the most part, because animals undergo less suffering than ghosts. For this suffering of birth, old age, sickness, and death, examine the detailed analysis in the previous tenth [fascicle] of the *Maulī Bhūmi* and the *Pratītyasamutpāda-sūtra*.
