Seventh, within the samādhi of the five noble knowledges, there are three parts: first, citing the sūtra as a topic; next, setting forth the five knowledges; finally, separately explaining the sūtra. “Knowledge of intrinsic nature” clarifies the intrinsic nature of all unpolluted knowledges. “Knowledge of the person” (pudgala-jñāna) is attained by noble beings and is not achieved by ordinary people. This knowledge is revealed in relation to persons, and is named pudgala knowledge. “Knowledge of purity” is due to eliminating afflictions, because contaminations cannot contaminate it. “Knowledge of the fruit” is because one obtains a dwelling in happiness in the present life and attains nirvāṇa in the future. “Knowledge of the signs of entering and emerging from concentration” is because one enters and emerges from concentration skillfully without forgetfulness.
