From "all worldly modes of purification" downward explains the fourth, the fruits of cultivation; the text is divided into two: first, explaining the two purifications, and then concluding them as the fruits of cultivation. The first is further divided into two: first, explaining the sixth factor, worldly purification, and then explaining the seventh factor, supramundane purification. The first text is again divided into two: first, extensively explaining the characteristics; and then concluding that worldly purification exists only within the true Dharma and not among the non-Buddhists. The first text has three parts: (1) asking and listing the three names; (2) distinct explanations following that; (3) concluding the extensive teaching as neither exceeding nor falling short. In the distinct explanations of the three: newly attaining the threshold concentration (anāgamya-samādhi) of the first dhyāna is called attaining samādhi; attaining the fundamental [dhyāna] is called perfection of samādhi; becoming free from all obstacles and defilements, inducing the supernormal knowledges (abhijñā), and all purities and whiteness is called mastery of samādhi.
