思謂思慮,即遍行思,唯意識俱;因思生慧,名為思慧。今取因思慧所成諸法,體通五蘊,為此地體。文分為二:初標列三門、後隨別釋。
"Thinking" (cintā) refers to reflection and deliberation—that is, the universal mental factor of volition (cetanā), which is associated exclusively with mental consciousness. The prajñā born from reflection is called the "prajñā arisen from reflection" (cintāmayī prajñā). Here, taking all phenomena accomplished through prajñā arisen from reflection—whose essential nature spans the five aggregates—it constitutes the substance of this bhūmi. The text is divided into two parts: first, marking out and listing the three gates; second, explaining them individually in turn.
