Where the treatise, regarding the marks of cause and condition, says, "Furthermore, whether created by humans, created by non-humans," and so forth, this refers to learning to recognize the marks of distraction. This is the Dharma master's explanation. Yet examining what comes before and after, this is not so. In the section on seclusion below, it repeatedly states "due to causes and conditions"; thus we know that these causes and conditions are the causes and conditions that generate greed and the like; hence the text below repeatedly speaks of "due to causes and conditions." "Or created through exertion": through this application of effort, distraction arises. From "If vipaśyanā" downward, it clarifies the causes and conditions of non-distraction. "The subsequent marks of causes and conditions of extremely intense contemplation" refers to cultivating the accumulations, which are the causes and conditions for ultimate fulfillment. It should be understood by analogy with the concentration below.
