In the treatise's explanation of the twelve dhūtas, it seems to diverge from the *Twelve Dhūtas Sūtra*, which raises a question. *Dhūta* was formerly rendered as "shaking off"—shaking off dust and defilement. It is also said to wash and purge body and mind, or to cultivate and discipline one's mind. The three robes have been explained before. Regarding the three antarvāsas: *antar* means "inner," and *vāsa* means "robe"; this term applies across to the previous two robes, so all should be designated as three.
