9.42

論云「謂由觸對順樂受觸，領樂觸緣所生樂時，自能了別樂受分位」者，今且舉樂觸，未舉苦等故，故言謂由觸對順樂受觸，即簡苦等受也。領樂觸緣所生樂時者，樂觸緣即境，能生樂觸者是。今意言領順樂觸境所生樂時，能自了知是樂受分位也。

The treatise says: "Because of contacting a contact agreeable to pleasant feeling, when one experiences the pleasure arisen with the contact of pleasure as condition, one can by oneself cognize the stage of pleasant feeling." Here it mentions pleasant contact for the time being, not yet having mentioned painful [contact] and the like; therefore it says, "Because of contacting a contact agreeable to pleasant feeling," which excludes painful and other feelings. Regarding "when one experiences the pleasure arisen with the contact of pleasure as condition": the condition of pleasant contact is the object—that which is capable of producing pleasant contact. The intention here is to say that when one experiences the pleasure arisen from the object of contact agreeable to pleasure, one can by oneself know this stage of pleasant feeling.
