I pay homage to the Greatly Awakened Honoured One of devas and humans, / Whose merits and wisdom are completely perfected; / To the unsurpassed true and sublime Dharma of letter and meaning; / And to the community of worthy and noble [saṅgha] who train in and uphold correct wisdom. / I bow my head to the Invincible One, the Greatly Compassionate Maitreya, / Who, universally to benefit all sentient beings, / Extensively gathered the true essential meanings of numerous sūtras / And concisely taught the five divisions of the Yogācāra. / I take refuge in the power of the sublime samādhi of the flow of Dharma, / Which gave rise to the meritorious renown of Asaṅga, / Who was able, from the ocean of the noble, invincible one, / To draw forth the utmost nectar of the Dharma. / I prostrate to the lamp of wisdom, seeing it extinguished, / Who rekindled the torch of Dharma to illuminate the myriad beings, / Equally pouring down an inexhaustible rain of letter-blossoms, / Flourishing and nourishing the wish-fulfilling tree of the Muni. / I take refuge in and praise my original instructing master, / Who, unsparing of life and limb, sought the Dharma, / Nourished and satisfied himself, ascended to Tuṣita, / And moreover bequeathed benefit to our kind. / This treatise is supreme like a lotus flower, / Like a treasure store, like the great ocean; / It fully reveals the vast meanings of all the vehicles, / Well explaining their texts without leaving anything out. / From within these great meanings of the Yogācāra, / I now, according to my ability, explain a small part, / In order to make the true Dharma endure forever without end, / Benefiting and bringing peace and happiness to all sentient beings.
