The link of feeling has two aspects: 1. feeling the feeling of vipāka, which arises with reference to the internal body; 2. feeling the feeling of cognitive objects, which arises with reference to external objects. Based on these two feelings, internal and external craving arise, acting as the moisteners. Previously, citing the consciousness that accords with karma subsumed the five seeds of consciousness and the rest; now, citing internal and external craving also subsumes the link of grasping. Or, internal craving is called craving, and external craving is called grasping; the meaning indicates that the six links from formations onward that are moistened are transformed and named the existence of the prior limit; in the present lifetime, the fruit consciousness rolls along accordingly, and the remaining name-and-form and so forth come to be born in sequence. In 'the continuous fruit consciousness coexists with name-and-form, up to decline and old age' and so on, if one relies on the stages, before the first seven days it is called consciousness, and before the seventh seven-day period it is called name-and-form. Here, speaking of the origin and branch, narrow and broad, of the various stages, to describe the mutual reliance subsuming the six sense bases and so forth, it merely says these two up to decline and old age, not that there is nothing else.
