述曰：略釋本頌，答外徵也。此釋初句，別釋其字，如論易詳，故不別舉。雙舉世間及諸聖教皆說：有我及有法者，但由假立，非實有性。性者，體也，仍未了知我、法二義。

The Commentary states: Briefly explaining the root verse, this answers the external interrogation. This explains the first line. The individual explanation of its characters is easy to examine in the treatise, so they are not cited separately. Mentioning both worldly and all sacred teachings together, both state: that there is a self and that there are dharmas are merely established through metaphor and are not real substances. "Substance" is entity (svabhāva); yet they still do not understand the two meanings of self and dharmas.
