述曰：且如冥性未變為大等時，我未受用境，後大等生我，方受用。前無是事，無受境用；後有是事，有受境用。若是常者，破之！量云：汝之實我，後起受用時亦應不起用；以前與後，體無別故；猶如前時，即難我體有變易也。

The Commentary states: Take for instance when the primordial nature has not yet transformed into Mahat and the rest: the self does not yet enjoy objects; later, when Mahat and the rest arise, the self only then enjoys them. Previously this matter did not exist, having no function of enjoying objects; later this matter exists, having the function of enjoying objects. If it is permanent, refute it! The syllogism: 'Your real self, at the subsequent time of giving rise to enjoyment, should also not give rise to its function; because between earlier and later, its substance has no distinction; just like the earlier time.' This challenges that the substance of the self has change.
