述曰：此即第一外道、小乘略共為問，徵法非有。前所計我，識內、識外皆體是無，但應總問：云何實我不可得耶？今者彼法，識內可有，有似法故，但識外無，為簡他宗計識外有故。今問曰：如何識外實有諸法不可得耶？

The Commentary states: This is the first [part], where the non-Buddhists and the Hīnayāna together briefly raise a question, challenging that dharmas do not exist. As for the previously posited self, both within consciousness and outside consciousness its substance is non-existent, so they should only have asked generally: "How is a real self unobtainable?" Now, as for those dharmas, they can exist within consciousness, because there are apparent dharmas; it is only outside consciousness that they are non-existent. In order to distinguish from other traditions that posit existence outside consciousness, they now ask: "How is it that real dharmas outside consciousness are unobtainable?"
