述曰：於中文有其八，量有其十。此中量云：薩埵等三，應三合成；許即大等故；猶如大等。彼宗大等，即是薩埵等三；薩埵等三，即是大等。薩埵等三是本法故，不從他成，大等不爾。故以三德例從大等多法而成。自下第二。

The Commentary states: In this text there are eight [sections] and ten syllogisms. The syllogism here is: Sattva and the other two should be composed of the three; because you accept that they are identical to mahat and so forth; just like mahat and so forth. In their school, mahat and so forth are identical to sattva and the other two; sattva and the other two are identical to mahat and so forth. Because sattva and the other two are primordial principles, they are not established from others, whereas mahat and so forth are not like this. Therefore, by analogy with mahat and so forth, the three guṇas would be established from multiple entities. Below is the second [refutation].
