The Commentary states: Below are the fourth and fifth [refutations], using one part of the essence as an analogy for the remaining part. The syllogism is: When one part of the three [entities], sattva and the rest, transforms into a principle, the remaining part should also transform; because this essence is identical to that of sattva and the rest, and their essence is without distinction. Or it may be stated: because you accept that their essence is omnipresent; like the part that transforms. These two inferences have: first, the reason "because the essence is without distinction"; second, the reason "because of being omnipresent." If one accepts that when one part transforms, the other part also transforms, then these three entities would never have a time when they do not transform, incurring the fault of contradicting their own school. For they posit that transforming into mountains and waters occurs here, while over there they do not transform, since the essence of prakṛti is still omnipresent.
