述曰：下顯造論，悟、斷、得果。於中有三：初顯悟；次顯斷；後得果。此即初也。論言「今」者，正顯論主造論之時。「造」者，製作之義。敘理名述，先來有故。作論名造，今新起故。

The Commentary states: Below is revealed [the purpose of] composing the treatise: awakening, severing, and attaining the fruits. In this there are three parts: first, revealing awakening; next, revealing severing; last, attaining the fruits. This is the first. When the treatise says 'now', it precisely reveals the time when the treatise master composed the treatise. 'Compose' has the meaning of creating. Narrating principle is called 'recounting' (shu), because it has existed from the beginning. Making a treatise is called 'composing' (zao), because it is newly originated now.
