The Commentary states: 'If you do not accept this, it contradicts reason' means: if you do not accept that reaching this entails reaching that, you contradict the reasoning of the syllogism that 'that' and 'this' are of one substance. If you do accept it, you contradict worldly affairs. If you advance following your own school to accept [reaching], you contradict worldly affairs and it is unestablished; if you retreat following others to not accept it, you contradict reason and it is unestablished. This is the immediate conclusion. As for the broader conclusion: advancing to conform with others contradicts your own teachings; retreating to follow your own teachings incurs the flaw of contradicting reason. Therefore, what you posit fails whether you advance or retreat, and is merely conceptualized by deluded sentiment. This concludes by returning to vijñapti-mātra.
