The Commentary states: The Sāṃkhya sect itself is divided into eighteen schools, which is why it now says "such as the Sāṃkhya," or other heterodox schools, being not just one. They assert: "Regarding the Great Being (sattā) and the commonality-difference (sāmānya-viśeṣa) posited by the Vaiśeṣikas, in our own school these two natures do not exist separately outside of substantial entities. The two natures are identical with the substantial entity, because the substantial entity and these are one." By "natures such as being," it means [the nature of being] and others, namely the nature of commonality-difference. The reason it does not say "commonality-difference" but rather says "natures such as [being]" is to show that being and so forth are those natures. Furthermore, by including commonality-difference, it shows the distinct types. Because they are the nature of things (dharmatā), they are refuted separately.
