The Commentary states: This fourth doctrine is the clinging of the Sautrāntikas, Dharmatrāta, and others. The Sautrāntika masters say: The Buddha spoke of the five aggregates; therefore, apart from the mind, there are only three mental factors: first, feeling (vedanā); second, perception (saṃjñā); third, volition (cetanā). He spoke of no other mental factors as aggregates; therefore, apart from these three, there are no other mental factors. Dharmatrāta's clinging also relies on sūtras. A sūtra says: 'The coming together of three factors is called contact (sparśa)', and so on at length. It also says: 'A person consists of six elements, and defilement and purity depend on the mind,' therefore there are no mental factors. He says there are only feeling, perception, formation, faith, volition, and other minds, with no other dharmas besides. Names of mental factors are established in accord with the functions of the mind; also fearing to contradict the ultimate teaching, he therefore says there are no mental factors.
