述曰：有是非故，一一皆應四句分別。此一一自望，即種類福為四句。謂施非度，不求菩提等；是度非施，隨喜施等；亦度亦施等可知。若不約種類福，次第修者，施為三句，無是波羅蜜非施故。餘五度得為四句，前有施度得為句故。若非次第者，皆得為四句。此中有三爾四句。

The Commentary states: Because there are positive and negative cases, each should be distinguished through four alternatives. In viewing each by itself, the meritorious actions of that category form four alternatives: namely, giving that is not a perfection, such as not seeking bodhi, etc.; a perfection that is not giving, such as rejoicing in others' giving, etc.; that which is both a perfection and giving, and so forth, as can be understood. If not considered by category of merit, but practiced in sequence, giving forms three alternatives, because there is no perfection that is not giving. The remaining five perfections can form four alternatives, because the preceding perfection of giving can form a alternative. If not in sequence, all can form four alternatives. Here there are three such four-alternative schemas.
